Certified JBL Synthesis Dolby Atmos Surround System Delivers an Immersive Audio Experience for Thanh Tung Audio’s New Showroom in Ho Chi Minh City

In April 2020, Thanh Tung Audio — a Vietnamese specialist in home and car audio — broke ground on a new showroom in Ho Chi Minh City. The high-end space was designed to provide the company’s customers with the ultimate environment for experiencing HARMAN Luxury Audio’s solutions for home theater and stereo listening. The dazzling new showroom consists of seven separate listening rooms. Two are dedicated to home theater, one to stereo listening, and three feature both. In these rooms, Thanh Tung Audio’s customers can experience a range of speakers, subwoofers, amplifiers, processors, and more from JBL Synthesis, Mark Levinson, Revel, JBL, and ARCAM. The crown jewel of the showroom, however, is the JBL Synthesis Experience Center, a high-end home theater featuring a certified JBL Synthesis Dolby Atmos surround system that delivers an immersive audio experience. 

Challenge 

“HARMAN Luxury Audio’s brands have been headlining our lineup of high-end home audio solutions since 2006,” said Nguyen Thanh Tung, manager, Thanh Tung Audio. “With Vietnam rapidly transforming into a tech hub akin to Singapore, it has become increasingly important for us to provide new and existing customers across the Southeast Asia region with a unique space to experience these products first-hand for both analog and digital audio, whether it’s watching a movie, streaming HiFi music, or enjoying jazz or classical music on vinyl. As the star of the show, we wanted the top of the line in our Experience Center. We needed a complete system that could be custom tailored to the Center’s size and acoustics to deliver a jaw-dropping immersive audio experience for visitors. To meet these requirements, JBL Synthesis was an easy choice.”

Solution

In the JBL Synthesis Experience Center, Thanh Tung Audio is utilizing three of the flagship SCL-1 dual 12-inch LCR loudspeakers for the theater’s front right, left, and center channels. Four SCL-4 2-way in-wall speakers are being used for the surround channels, while four SCL-5 2-way in-ceiling speakers deliver the Dolby Atmos experience. The SCL-1 utilizes the patented JBL D2430K dual 3-inch compression driver tweeter with its HDI waveguide and 12-inch cast-frame woofers, while the SCL-4 and SCL-5 utilize the patented JBL 2410H 1-inch compression driver and 7-inch Advanced Aluminum Matrix cone woofers. The result is a seamless surround sound experience that covers the entire room. 

To deliver powerful bass, Thanh Tung Audio is relying on JBL Synthesis’ flagship SSW-1 dual 15-inch passive subwoofer. The system is completed by an SDP-75 immersive surround sound processor, seven S820 stereo audio amplifiers, a SDEC-4500P 12-channel digital equalizer, and a DSi 2.0 MA4-D 4-channel power amplifier. The company calibrated the surround system using the SDP-75’s built-in room calibration function. 

For certification, HARMAN Luxury Audio offers JBL Synthesis Certified System and Certified Elite System certification programs for systems ranging from small-scale, intimate rooms to large-scale, high-channel-count immersive spaces. The program mandates specified calibration services and processes, while acoustically proven tuning methods guarantee in-room performance. The Certified Elite System program is designed for more challenging room environments and more expansive and complex setups, such as the system in the JBL Synthesis Experience Center. In fact, Thanh Tung Audio’s immersive surround system is one of the first in the world to earn the custom, laser-etched face plate denoting its status as a Certified Elite System.
